As we bid farewell to the long winter months, ScienceOpen has completed another successful quarter!
Welcome to the March Monthly Digest, in which we want to highlight some of the recent major collaborations and announce exciting events, research and campaigns for the month of April!
New additions to ScienceOpen’s network
In March, two important African journals joined our network benefiting fully from our hosting and manuscript submission infrastructure. Nano Horizons, a newly launched diamond open access journal, and the Nigerian Journal of Tropical Engineering (NJTE), published by the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University’s Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology, will make a significant contribution to our network of 84+ million articles, by providing high-quality research and enriching disciplines related to nanoscience, nanotechnology, and engineering.
ScienceOpen will be the hosting platform for the online open access articles of the new digital issue of NJET, which has recently moved to an open digital model and will benefit from ScienceOpen’s manuscript submission and article publishing workflow.
Nano-Horizons, on the other hand, will present African research perspectives and developments in nanotechnology while also adding significant innovative research outputs from the University of South Africa’s (Unisa) on our network. Nano-Horizons’ research will also reflect UNISA’s engagement and main role as Africa Chair in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
Content from both journals will be discoverable by ScienceOpen’s advanced search engine, as well as promoted as part of the featured Collection infrastructure on ScienceOpen’s social media platforms.
Powering (transatlantic) cooperation with SciCrunch
The high-priority, EU-funded drug repurposing initiative REPO4EU is soon launching an Open Science publishing portal based on ScienceOpen’s premiere publishing and discovery technology. As a member of the REPO4EU consortium, ScienceOpen will provide the technology needed to run the publishing portal, and to increase the scientific rigor, transparency and reproducibility of the research outputs published in this portal, a collaboration with SciCrunch was recently launched.
Thanks to this new collaboration, we will provide SciScore reports for all manuscript submissions in the REPO4EU Drug Repurposing Central publishing portal. The interactive portal Drug Repurposing Central will become a hub for high-quality open access drug repurposing research publications.
Stay tuned as we announce exiting updates from the development of the portal, which will consist of an open preprint repository, several open access journals, conference proceedings, and interactive showcases of project results.
Promoting Research from Ukraine
For over a year now, ScienceOpen has been promoting research concerning Ukraine or coming from Ukrainian scholars in a dedicated research collection. This collection of research from Ukraine is generated automatically by a text field search in the affiliations section and displays a showcase of Ukrainian research in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
To mark the impact of Ukrainian research and the importance of initiatives like ours in supporting the work of researchers and Ukrainian scholars, we interviewed Oksana Shevchuk, Professor at the I.Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, about the current situation for researchers, the challenges they face, and how researcher communities around the world can assist researchers or research institutions in Ukraine.
